When a note has an underscore or overscore, what does that mean?

When a note has an underscore or overscore, what does that mean? Hi Richard, Sometimes you'll see what looks like an underscore or sometimes what looks like an arrowhead without the base (carat symbol above the #6 on a keyboard). The symbols mean the notes are played in a "marked" fashion. In other words they are played with slightly heavier emphasis. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Trevor M.
