All the books that I have none give a a good idea of how to, or show how to, play slurs.

Hi Ron,

Slurs take a good deal of accuracy and thus a lot of practice. You need to practice slowly in the proper manner.

Also this page which helps you to practice slur technique is a good one.
There's free sheet music (also in tab)on the page so you can practice the slur piece.
