My top 3 favorite guitarist are Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, and Marty Friedman.

Yngwie inspired an entire genre of neo classical shredders and in his wake Jason Becker (the Prodigy) and Marty Friedman carried the battle further with their work on Cacophony and their solo work.

They took guitar playing to the next level. Combining metal and rock with the technical scales and arpeggios of classical music.
