Bream and Segovia, nobody would disagree, but there's a surprising number of us guitarists who not only don't put John Williams in the Top 3 but are anti John Williams! For myself, when I first started taking it seriously, I couldn't get enough of John Williams, especially the Bach lute suites. I guess I tried, in my inept way, to imitate his playing, only to be told off by my teacher because, in her words, "he plays like a computer". I think that's nonsense, and I still rate his Bach suites as probably the best on record/CD. So why are so many guitarists down on John Williams?
