beginner guitar

I am totally new to classical guitar. Could you suggest two or three guitars that would be good for a beginner?

I really don't want to spend over $300 since I'm just starting out. I have seen a few online that are solid top guitars in that price range.

I just don't know which one would be best in terms of quality. There is a Washburn C80S model that is only $200. I've also seen a few Yamaha's in my price range, and the Cordoba C5.

Also, Ibanez, Alvarez, and La Patrie each make a few in my price range. My thinking is that I should buy an entry-level guitar from a company that also makes expensive guitars.

Is this proper thinking? Please help with a few suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Hi Chad,

I think you're right in your thinking! I'd go for a reputable dealer who has a good track record. The ones you mentioned above are good. I've bought both a Yamaha and a Cordoba in the past and was really satisfied with my choices at the time.

You'll find as you get better at playing guitar your "taste" for a better guitar will move on also.

Just keep in mind that $300 isn't an awful lot of money when it comes to good classical guitars but if it's a reputable make it should do the job.

I'd go with the Yamaha but that's my personal preference. If you can get to a store to try them out personally all the better.

I hoe this was of help.

Kind regards,
Trevor M.

Which guitar
by: Phil

Hi, I spent several trips to tin pan alley's guitarland (Denmark St. London) listening to as many guitars as I could. Let your ears guide you. I ended up with a Camps artisan costing under £600. You get what you pay for with guitars so stretch your budget as much as you dare. Also, the strings will pick the guitar. So ask the sales person to let you listen to different types of strings. Happy hunting and oh! don't forget to barter, especially in today's ecconomic climate!;~)
Regards,
Phil
