1. News

Hi to all new and old subscribers!

Welcome to the June 2007 issue of Great Guitar Tips.

Work is advancing on videoing sheet music from these monthly ezine editions so that those that subscribe can benefit.

You should see the first of them in next month's edition.

There's also new pages on "Great Classical Guitar Music" which includes the Concierto De Aranjuez and Cavatina. I've recorded a version of the Cavatina for your edification/enjoyment. I hope you like it!

Anyhow, let's get on with the show, as they say...

2. Technique - Sight Reading

A lot of guitarists worry about their sight reading. It is like anything else to do with guitar…you just need regular (hopefully daily) practice. Another thing to consider is not trying to sight-read music that is beyond your technical capabilities. You need to "hasten slowly" as it were. Read more here...

There are a few books I recommend on that page. Namely Sight Reading Levels 1-3 by Robert Benedict... and Sight Reading Levels 4-5 by Robert Benedict...

They are very good, quality books that will definitely help you develop your sight reading skills.

3. New Page Additions

The new page additions this month are on "Great Classical Music" and related, the "Cavatina". You can read more here and here...

I've made a youtube video of Cavatina for your enjoyment. It really is a lovely piece that's been "with me" a long, long time. It must be one of the most loved modern classical guitar pieces of all time.

4. Product Review - Play Classical Guitar by David Braid

Play Classical Guitar by David Braid is a wonderfully produced book that is aesthetically pleasing as well as being highly educational. It's a wonderful addition to any guitarists library, let alone the classical player. The book covers such topics as: Playing Position; Counterpoint; Dynamics; Chords; Musicianship; History of Repertoire and much, much more.

In fact, the book covers no less than 90 topics in six separate sections. A lovely, yet educational book.

You can get the book here...

5. This Month's Fr/ee Music

This month's fr/ee music is an Andantino by Giuliani. It's from his Opus 96 which, in its complete form, is a guitar sonata. A sonata can be made up of numerous sections. It's a good lead into a study point for next month's edition. But for now you can get your fr/ee music here...

Don't forget to right click and use "Save Target As" to your desktop (if you're using Windows). I hope you enjoy the music!

And that's all for this issue. See you next month:))
